Show & Tell: Beach House – Norway
Posted on 15. Dec, 2009 by Simon in Music, Show & Tell

Not a lot of bands pull of “atmospheric” quite like Baltimore duo Beach House. Having heard some … ok, most. Alright, I’ve heard all of the upcoming leaked album Teen Dream, and without throwing too much hype at it (too late), I am completely prepared to put the soon-to-drop LP into 2010 record of the year conversation. And yes, I know the year hasn’t even started yet.
Lead single Norway has been making its way around the interweb and having had a chance to contextualize it I can share that, although it’s a distinct BPM shift from what Beach House are apt to do, it’s definitely a welcome exception instead of a new rule.
Beach House go quickly from shoe-gazing to toe-tapping on Norway, with swirling guitar arpeggio and oscillating organs accompany Victoria Legrand’s haunting, breathy vocals. I almost want to say this is what fellow B’more arties Animal Collective might sound like if they were girls.
I’ve listened to this song more times than healthy this week, and normally I’m not one to mash repeat.
The goods are after the jump.
