Everybody Hates Iceland

Having spent my formative years wishing to visit Iceland, then finally vacationing there just a year ago, the isolated volcanic rock at the top of the world holds a sentimental place in my heart. If you live in Europe however, you probably hate the place. I’d imagine that to you, Iceland is bleak, their banks all went under, they owe your country money, their volcanos and impending ash cloud are disrupting air traffic and daily business in all of northern Europe, and nobody knows what the hell Bjork is doing with her career.
In the immortal words of Charlie Brown: ARRRGGGGHHH!!!
Naturally, there’s at least a somewhat silver lining to this volcano business. Pictures on Flickr that make my vacation pics look like comparing iPhone racing games to being in an actual F1 car.
Check out some of the best after the jump.

Excellent pics!
I’m just mildly irritated that the place doesn’t feel so off-the-map anymore, now that news stations have been covering the crap out of this.
I actually wanted to go for a long time– and booked a flight there for this August a few weeks back!– and now will be lumped in with those masses of people who just figured out where Iceland IS and want to go volcano-chasing.
Ah well– as long as Eyjafjoell (better written than said) gets this out of its system now– and not three months from now!

You’re going to love it there, it was one of the best vacations I’ve ever been on.
Pro-tip — the hot springs in Mývatn are just as good as the Blue Lagoon but with way fewer tourists.
