Mom fights ‘Gossip Girl’ books by being greedy

HAHA at this sentence: “Longwood parent Tina Harden…” Anyway, concerned-Floridian Harden was so upset with the “Gossip Girl” books her 13-year-old daughter checked out from the library that she decided to hold on to them for two years and not give them back. She now owes the library $85 dollars, but that’s OK, she’s saved the lives of countless children in the process.
From the Orlando Sentinel:
Harden later flipped through one and saw numerous curse words and terms such as “stoned” and “marijuana,” and a reference to sleeping with a teacher.
“The whole book was filled with everything I don’t want my daughter to do or be,” she said.
Wow. I’ve only ever watched the show and sure Jenny Humphrey is kind of annoying, but I can’t believe people would actually stone her. That writer is sick.
This story totally reminds me of my elementary school librarian who freaked out when she read one of the Christopher Pike books we kids loved so much. She objected pretty heavily to all the sex and horror. I dunno what the big deal was though — I turned out pretty well adjusted. I mean, I always cry in horror after sex. That’s just life right?

Hey, just stumbled onto your blog. Super enjoyable, especially as I’m also a Torontonian (funny, spellcheck is insisting that Torontonian is not a word). I particularly liked your blog on the Canada USA game =D
