That’s probably my favourite interrobang Photoshop ever.

I wonder if cutting the hand off was one of those stupid decisions where it’s like, I BET this is a good idea. And then it’s taking forever and you’re only halfway through the bone and it hurts so bad, but you’ve gone this far already so you might as well continue, because otherwise you’d feel stupid. What, just me?

As for the cliched characters — if Merle is any indication, I think the way they’re introducing characters is by setting them up as cliches and then drawing them out slowly. Glenn too was presented straight-away as the plucky smart Asian dude, but now with the car we’re seeing he’s actually kind of impulsive and stupid. And Shane is mad skeevy but we also saw that he seems to gave a genuine parental connection with Rick’s son, which is nice.

We’ll see how it goes. But either way, I like that the third ep was a character-heavy story after last week’s action movie steez. I like that this show finds both things equally worth its time.

Yea, I’m pretty sure I could never saw my hand off. Like, I would rather starve to death, or try saw through the pipe slowly over the course of a week or something instead of saw my hand off.

Also, something I forgot to mention: CROSSBOW! I love crossbows. That’s at the top of my list of weapons to procure when the zombie apocalypse occurs.

Crossbow and a Hattori Hanzo sword.

One thing I picked up from the comic that the show seems to be sticking to is that all of the ‘old rules’ go out the door, and anyone who continues to live by them will eventually die because of them. Old rules include all the cliches that you’ve seen and mentioned so far, as well as your old moral compass.

Second thing I picked up is that yes, most of the main characters have depth, and can’t be pigeon-holed into an archetype. Rick isn’t a good person. Glenn isn’t so brave. The women aren’t that weak.

Basically, none of the adult characters are ‘good guys’ or ‘bad guys.’ They’re all generally good, but all capable of downright ugly actions (even the so-called ‘bad guys’). Really, the distinction comes from perspective. The story unfolds through certain peoples’ eyes. Look at them through ‘bad guy’ eyes, and all of a sudden, the same basically ‘good’ characters become evil MFs that need to be stopped.

The only truly good characters are the children, who are too young and not hormonal enough to be capable of doing very bad things.

Thats if the show sticks to the themes in the comic…
